Why Anthony Weiner’s Situation Matters!

by Richard H. Frank

Today’s permissive society looks at the case of Anthony Weiner as no one’s business except for the Congressman and his wife. How humorous that a man with the outward appearance of a vulture could consider himself irresistible to numerous women across America.  If you believe his explanation for his lewd behavior as having been a joke gone wrong with no effect upon anyone but the Congressman, you must live in some imaginary universe other than ours.

Mr. Weiner holds the title of Congressman representing citizens from his district in New York, sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.  As such, members of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate must be held to a higher standard of conduct enumerated in the Rules established by these individual institutions.  Unfortunately, imposition of these rules is at the discretion of the political majority holding power at any particular point in time.  Thus, Congress has become an exclusive club where the rules are bent to suit the ideology of the day.

Recent history is a testament to the truth of how ethics are swept under the rug where the balance of political power is at stake.  Today, acts of assault, adultery, bribery and lying under oath are all given a pass or minor reprimand where politicians are involved.

Beginning with Bill Clinton’s escapade with Monica Lewinsky in the Oval Office and his lies to the Grand Jury under oath, followed by Elliott Spitzer, South Carolina’s Governor’s trips to South America with his mistress, John Edwards’ affair and alleged use of campaign funds, Charles Rangel and now  Anthony Weiner, we see the degradation of morals deeply intrenched in our Federal Government Representatives.

Characteristics such as dignity, decency, honor and truthfulness all take a back seat when it comes to the quest for political power.  Barack Obama consistently looks the American public in the eye and regurgitates a litany of lies that constitute his political agenda and ideology.  The American media is equally guilty and complicit in perpetrating these lies.

I find it hard to believe that there are not men of honor more qualified than the likes of Anthony Weiner to represent “We the People.”

Forget labels of political parties and look to the character of those seeking political office.  Men of character and virtue will always do what is right for America and uphold the principles outlined within our Constitution.

George Washington said of Government: “Government is not reason, it is not eloquence – it is a force!  Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master, never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”

Likewise, Government should never be left to irresponsible men the likes of Anthony Weiner.

His resignation cannot come too soon if we are to strive to have men of character represent “We the People.”
