The Most Important Question Asked in Sunday’s Debate!

By: Richard H. Frank

The entire media, mainstream and others, seemed to miss the candidate’s answer to the question that will have the most long-lasting impact on every American, our children and grandchildren. At least they are neglecting to talk about it and prefer to focus on the personal attacks and scandals that occupy the headlines.

The question was, “What sort of people would each candidate appoint to open positions on the Supreme Court?”

Hillery Clinton droned on in her usual fashion about how the Republican controlled Senate refused to give Obama’s latest nominee a hearing before embarking upon a diatribe of issues including how Trump would appoint Judges that would overturn “Roe vs Wade” and Gay marriage and how her selections would overturn the “Citizens United” decision on campaign finance. She was quick to add that the Second Amendment would be tampered with to make mandatory background checks the law of the land.

Her priority was to appoint Justices having the same view as she holds with regard to “social justice” issues. She implied that her nominations would represent the diversity in America and not necessarily be confined to Federal Judges. Could this be she is referring to people like Obama or Elizabeth Warren?

Never once in her answer did she mention upholding the “Bill of Rights” nor did she use the word “Constitution”.

Donald Trump, on the other hand stated that he had put forth a list of 20 candidates all of which held beliefs in the vein of the late Justice Antonin Scalia that would faithfully discharge their oath to uphold the Constitution and not legislate from the bench.

Hillery Clinton has publicly stated her intention to continue the policies of Barack Obama. His strategy and policies were revealed in a book entitled “Obama’s Blueprint for America” and specifically pointed to his intention to make appointments to the Supreme Court with Judges holding “secular progressive” leanings. He stated in his run for the Presidency in 2008 that the Constitution was a “basically flawed document.” Thank God that the court has seen differently and reversed many of his executive orders as being unconstitutional.

Without the checks and balances enumerated in our Constitution this nation will wake one day to find we have achieved the status of becoming a “Banana Republic” under the thumb of a corrupt and oppressive dictator. Only “WE the People” can stop this from happening by exercising our “Constitutional” right to vote and elect representatives that believe in our “Constitution” as written.

Obama Lies and Unconstitutional Acts to Become the Legacy of his Presidency

by Jayne D. Frank

For some Americans, President Obama’s approval ratings remain high and that is stunning! But take into consideration who this small minority is who approves of him. They are students in school, too preoccupied with trying to get ahead and enjoying their young lives that they don’t pay attention. These are people who benefit from one of the largest Federal welfare giveaways in this century-those people collecting food stamps, unemployment benefits, disability and free Medicaid health services. This segment of America is so dependent on their status quo that they won’t open their eyes to see what this man is doing to our Country because they “can’t” lose the money they are given.

Lies from the White House about Obamacare permeated 2013 and will explode in 2014, because Obama has no other choice. Obamacare is a failure and a disaster. Already with this health care law, we know what is not true:

1) President Obama says “If you like your plan you can keep it.” This Administration knew just 2 months after the bill was passed when Regulations were written, that some 10 million people were targeted to lose their health care plans because the plans did not cover services that people did not need. Contraceptives, maternity care and abortive services were certainly not desired by single men in this country. High deductibles and co-pays were not in most plans because middle class Americans just don’t have that kind of money. Many Americans also just chose NOT to carry insurance and as people in a supposedly free country that was their right. So, thus far, 5.9 million Americans have been told they have lost their plans.

2) Another lie: “If you like your doctor, you can keep him!” We learned after October that many plans offered by the healthcare exchanges will NOT include your current doctor or hospital in their network plans. If you have a serious chronic disease and have been receiving great care by your doctor or hospital, you will once again be faced with starting over and finding someone to treat you with the same care and medications. Many cancer patients whose only hope is to go to Sloan-Kettering, MD Anderson or other major hospitals for treatment and a possible cure, will be shut out of access to those hospitals.

3) We are finding out that many plans in the Government health care exchanges are not offering the kinds of medicines that have treated your illnesses with success. If you have struggled to get your asthma under control and have found “management” of the disease by some of the more expensive medications such as Advair, these medications will undoubtedly be replaced by less-effective cheaper medications. Women who count on expensive osteoporosis medications to stop or prevent the disease will find that those too will found to be too expensive. Cancer medications are already being talked about to be reduced under these plans.

4) We have heard that the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) which is the governing body that will decide what treatments you get as a patient, will consist of non-elected, mostly non medical people who will not be accountable to anyone for their decisions. It is no accident that the members of IPAB are not and will not be chosen until this law is well underway and is unchangeable. The example given above for decisions about cancer treatment is more than enough for a reasonable person to know what is coming. A better example would be treatments for prostate cancer in men being severely rationed. Statistics indicate that 30% of men over age 50 and 80% of men over age 70 will be diagnosed with the disease. PSA, coupled with other tests, are the only current early indicators of prostate cancer. Treatments include radical surgery, radiation, hormone therapy and “watchful waiting.” The documented most effective cures are the first two and are costly treatments for the disease. IPAB’s mission to reduce costs will surely include rationing of treatments for any male over age 65. This action could become an unnecessary death sentence for those males with the disease. This cost-reduction mission of IPAB is certainly applicable to all other diseases where there are multiple treatments available such as breast cancer. Proponents of this law will always say that IPAB cannot “ration,” but there is no other way to achieve cost savings than to limit tests and procedures that are the most expensive for early diagnosis.

5) Obama and his minions have continued to lie that Obamacare will not affect seniors. Seniors have already been told that their doctors no longer will accept Medicare Advantage, and seniors will be the #1 target for this new IPAB group as they selectively decide, based on your age, whether you qualify for expensive medical treatment. Many seniors have also been told by their doctors that their doctors are not going to practice anymore or that they will no longer accept Medicare patients. Throwing every senior into Medicaid isn’t the answer either as most doctors in high density senior areas of the country have already stopped accepting Medicaid patients.

6) The lie continues about greater access for all Americans to medical care. Taking into consideration the number of doctors that are dropping out of private practice and the millions of new enrollees to the Government health care system that this law envisions, there is no way you will be able to see your doctor or receive a medical procedure without waiting many weeks or months.

7) In a stagnant economy with no meaningful jobs on the horizon, the worst lie told by Obama is that Government-run health care will be cheaper, “saving families $2500 per year!” Over the past 2 months we have heard the horror stories of middle class people who have gone on the exchanges to find plans only to find out that their premiums can be increased sometimes by triple their current cost, but if they pick a lower cost plan, their deductibles and co-pays are exorbitant and UNAFFORDABLE. Add to this fact that the payment for the website alone has gone from $634 billion to $677 billion and consider the millions of Americans who either are getting substantial unqualified subsidies or who have been shifted from a “payor” to a Medicaid recipient. There is no way this Government-run system will be cheaper and will save taxpayers money.

If this President cared about this Country at all, he would admit the lies he tells and at least try to get Obamacare changed in the parts where it has been found to be failing. Instead, he illegally waives his hand and mandates that certain groups be exempted from the law, makes regulations that extend much of the more onerous portions until they figure it out, or he just plain “deems” certain sections of the law unnecessary or no longer in effect.

Americans, this is OUR country, not Barack Obama’s! We are going to find that 2014 and 2015 may become the worst years of our lives because many millions of people with corporate-sponsored plans will lose their coverage and many of the mandates in the law have yet to become effective. We can do better. America had the best health care system in the world, and instead of fixing the small areas that needed to be fixed such as the uninsured or the rising cost of healthcare, Obama just blew up our health care, for his own agenda. I firmly believe we haven’t done anything about Barack Obama’s illegal actions in the Congress because of the “racist” charges to anyone who disagrees with the Obama administration. We have one more chance to right the wrongs that we allowed to happen. That is the 2014 mid-term elections. If we do not put responsible people in the Senate and keep the House of Representatives, we will deserve what we get! Only with control of these two houses can responsible Republican members of Congress take actions to repeal and replace this disastrous law.

Why Romney Lost the 2012 Election

by Richard H. Frank

Five months following the 2012 Presidential election and the defeat of Mitt Romney by Barack Obama the pundits  from both parties have attempted to spin their message and place the blame on everything from one candidate having no message to the other having a superior ground game for getting out the vote.  There is an element of truth in every theory presented but I believe the real reason resides in the changing demographics in America experienced over the past 50 years.  The demographics not so much in terms of ethnic origin, race or economic status but the demographic of an individual’s collective life experience.

As our nation prepared to celebrate the Bicentennial in 1976, I had the occasion to view a video entitled “What You Are is Where You Were When” created by  and featuring Dr. Morris Massey, then an Associate Dean and Professor of Marketing at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

My first impression as I viewed the video was that I was watching a fast-talking used car salesman that resembled a flim-flam man or carnival Barker.  As I listened however, it become apparent that he had a lot of valuable information to convey in a relatively short span of time limited by the video itself.

His message was all about values  The values every human being possesses, where they were first introduced, what life forces imprinted them upon us and how they became part of our belief system.

According to Dr. Massey there are three major periods in each person’s life during which values are developed:

  1. The Imprint Period, up to age seven, when we are like sponges absorbing everything around us, accepting much as true, especially when it comes from our parents.
  2. The Modeling Period, between the ages of eight and thirteen where we tend to copy others, often our parents.  We may be impressed by religion or teachers.  Often times outside influences may take precedent over the values of our parents.
  3. The Socialization Period, between 13 and 21 when peer pressures largely influence our behavior and often are in conflict with values previously introduced by parents and teachers.  Other influences include media, and in today’s rapidly changing technology the largely uninformed social media.

If Dr. Massey’s theories are correct the country has been bombarded with secular-based values over the past 50 years, many of which are in direct opposition to those of people born in the first half of the 20th Century.  For example:

  • The distortion of our Constitution with regard to the separation of church and state (words which cannot be found in the document as written by the Founding Fathers.)
  • The role of the Federal Government taking precedent and usurping the power of the state – disregard of the Enumerated Powers within the Constitution.
  • Expansion of the welfare state to include redistribution of wealth, not through voluntary, charitable institutions or individuals, but by the fiat of Government.
  • A disregard for human life by advocates of abortion and a practice in this Country that makes the Holocaust pale due to the wanton disregard for the life of the unborn through millions of abortions performed in this Country.

Take a look at what has occurred in our public institutions of learning beginning in the 1960s.  Religion has been removed from the classroom and the very mention of God is no longer tolerated.  Music celebrating any form of religion is no longer included in the secular curriculum taught in our schools and holidays acknowledged for centuries under the law are now renamed for political correctness.

So how have we as a nation allowed all this change in our values to occur since the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776?  According to Dr. Massey any change in values must be preceded by a “Significant Emotional Event.”

Looking back over the past 100 years it is easy to mark the most “significant emotion events” and see how they impacted the value system of Americans living at that moment in time.

  • 1914 World War I and a call to America to protect and defend the principles upon which this Country was founded.  The significant event came with the sinking of the Lusitania Passenger Liner by the German “U” boats and the loss of American life.
  • 1929’s Black Friday crash of the stock market leading to the Great Depression.  Millions of Americans were out of work and lost their homes.  This significant event imprinted the value for  hard work and property on millions of Americans living through the Depression.
  • December 7, 1941 and the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor once again awakened the patriotic values of America to return to its core values and defend the world against Imperial Japan and facism in Europe.
  • November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas and shook the nation to its very foundation.  Politically, our Government leaders embarked upon social justice programs such as the  Great Society,  the War on Poverty and others that nurtured a growing segment of society addicted to entitlements which cannot be sustained.
  • September 11, 2001, the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon shook America awake and focused the threat of Muslim extremists directly on our security here in the homeland.
  • November, 2008 the election of Barack Obama, the first Black President in this nation’s history that campaigned against many of the values that made our Country the most free, most prosperous nation in the history of the world.  His promise was to “fundamentally change America” through his actions for social justice to correct in his words “a fundamentally flawed U. S. Constitution.”  The significant emotion to elect a black man regardless of his lack of credentials and experience to hold the office, and the fear of being judged as being racist, overrode logic and common sense of the electorate.
  • November, 2012 Barack Obama is reelected with a campaign based solely upon the premise that he could not fix all the economic problems created by  George Bush in a mere 4 years and that General Motors was alive and Bin Laden was dead.

Therefore, if one is to believe that Dr. Massey is correct, and I do, what will the next “significant emotional event” be that awakes America and returns us to our senses?

Possibly without real fiscal reform the collapse of the dollar which would throw this Country into the worst depression ever witnessed in modern history.  Continued deficient spending and growth of the Federal Government to support social justice at the expense of the free market and eventually individual freedom. Or perhaps another event might be millions of people protesting in the street in America because their handouts no longer can be sustained.   Simply put “there is no such thing as a free lunch.”  When the Government runs out of other people’s money to spend we will become Greece and that’s when the real revolution will begin.  God Help the United States of America should we ever reach that time.

The Color of Barack Obama’s Character!

By: Richard H. Frank

Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. in his “I have a dream speech”, stated that we should judge a man not by the color of his skin but by his character. Each of us may define character differently. Although the dictionary defines “character” in vague adjectives that cover a wide assortment of situations and conditions, there is one definition upon which I feel we can all agree upon. Character among men is embodied within the action you take to carry out the “Values, Ethics and Morals” you believe in.

  • Consistency between what you say you will do and what you actually do.
  • Championing and putting ethics into action.
  • Moral strength. It takes moral courage to do what is right when it may cost you more than you are willing to pay.
  • Who you are and what you do when no one is looking.

William Penn put “character” in terms we can all understand when he said, “Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it. Right is still right, even if no one else is doing it.” So what may we conclude from the above? Character is predicated upon the values and principles which a person’s beliefs are founded.

Politically, we use terms such as ideology, the rule of law and transparency to measure our leaders’ character against. Unfortunately, most politicians fail to live up to these measures and the values and principles embodied in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. The latest and most revealing look into Barack Obama’s character and that of his administration is evidenced in their explanation of what occurred in the Benghazi, Libya consulate the evening of 9/11/2012 leading to the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

It is amazing how quickly our President and his administration placed the blame for uprisings on September 11th in more than 20 middle east countries on a video trailer mocking the Islamic prophet Mohamed. Any evidence to the contrary was suppressed for over one month as it would prove to undermine the Presidents foreign policies in the region. One month following the attack as the truth continued to emerge we see that there was no uprising in Benghazi resulting from the video trailer and that the attack was indeed a planned coordinated terrorist assault upon the consulate. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice even in the face of undisputed evidence continued to insist the killings were the result of a mob gone out of control protesting the video. As the truth emerged the spin merchants in Washington began to construct their smoke screen to protect the President and his administration against voter retaliation with the general election just under 4 weeks away.

Following the explanation given by Obama and Clinton on September 12th the President boarded Air Force One to attend a fund raiser in Nevada leaving family members of the murdered Americans with a myriad of unanswered questions. So much for what the President says and what he does.

This week, a full month following the terrorist attack, the professionals within the State Department decided to come clean and admit they knew the attack was a planned terrorist assault from the outset and not the result of any video trailer. They apparently decided they would not become the fall guys for Obama, Clinton and the administration’s flawed foreign policies. Now that the can has been opened the administration is scrambling to keep the worms from escaping  before the election takes place on November 6, 2012. Unfortunately for Obama and his administration the lid has been removed from this scandal and the truth will be pursued beyond the election regardless of the outcome of the November vote.

Those of us that experienced the Watergate scandal and the eventual resignation of President Nixon for covering up a burglary know that the breech of the consulate in Libya and resulting murder of four Americans is much more serious than any break-in. No one was murdered as a result of Watergate but we have four dead patriots as a result of Obama’s policies in Libya. Congressman Issa’s oversight committee must diligently pursue the truth and hold those in government accountable for not providing protection to our men and women overseas in service to this nation.

If the color of Obama’s character and that of his administration were to be defined by the events on 9/11 in Libya, I believe it would be labeled as “YELLOW”.

Obama’s Imperial Presidency – Making Congress and the Courts Irrelevant

by Richard H. Frank

Over the past 3-1/2 years Americans have witnessed the plan of Barack Obama to “fundamentally change America” from the Representative Republic envisioned by the Founders into a European Socialist democracy.  The tactics used by the Obama Administration have been predicted and documented by numerous authors and thus should not be a surprise to anyone who believes in the Constitution and the rule of law in the United States.

President Obama stated that the Constitution is a “flawed document” and despite his solemn oath to uphold the tenants embodied within it has trampled it and the law whenever it suited his agenda to achieve “fundamental change” in America.

This blog and countless others have chronicled his illegal abuse of executive power and called upon Congress to challenge the usurpation of power never intended for the Executive Branch of Government nor the President to possess.

The following is an article about Obama’s second term transformation by Steve McCann in the American Thinker which captures the essence of Obama’s quest to achieve the Imperial Presidency:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/05/obamas_second_term_transformation_plans.html

Since Congress has failed to challenge Obama’s abuses of power and  his absolute disregard for the Judiciary, it remains for “We the People” to remove him from office in November and return the Republic to the vision of the Founding Fathers and thus preserve our personal freedom.

Time for Drastic “Anti-Smoking” Policies

by Jayne Frank

Of the several hundred articles written in Libertyssong Blog over the past couple of years, the one article receiving the most views, and I should say negative comments from smokers, is our previous article on whether smoking should really be considered a Right.  A few years later, my opinion that smoking is NOT a right is validated by the Centers for Disease Control, American Lung Association and our Government’s own current statistics.  This discussion is critically important today because the U.S. is broke and cuts must be made.

Here are the stunning statistics about the cost of smoking in the U.S.:

  1. $.25 of every health care dollar is used for illnesses related to smoking and other behavorial lifestyles, and practically NONE of those dollars are paid for by the person involved in such behavior, but are paid for by 1) increases in insurance premiums for the rest of society, b) disability costs and c) government expenditures for health care.
  2. There are 443,000 deaths (1 in 5) attributable to smoking each year.
  3. 49,400 deaths are attributable to second-hand smoke
  4. Smokers will die 14 years earlier than their non-smoking counterparts
  5. 8.6 million people live with chronic illness (and those costs are multiplying rapidly as life span increases).
  6. $96 billion is the staggering number spent on medical costs related to smoking.  Medical costs for smoking related illnesses have risen 8 times more than in 1980.
  7. $97 billion lost productivity costs to U.S. businesses each year

The argument you get from the liberal left in this country is exemplified by the following excerpt from an article by Santa Monica University:

“Clear as this reasoning seems, penalizing individuals for unhealthy behaviors could result in great injustice and social harm. While 18 percent of U.S. citizens with incomes above the poverty line smoke, for example, the figure almost doubles to 33 percent for those with incomes below the poverty line. A one-dollar cigarette tax would have a strongly regressive effect on the low incomes these individuals receive. Consider the added problem of tobacco addiction and the probable result of a tax is not less smoking or lower health care costs, but fewer dollars spent on nutritional food and other essentials – conceivably leading to more illness and higher health care costs.”

As a “middle class” citizen, taxpayer and a Conservative, this kind of rhetoric is deplorable and does nothing but  make people feel guilty who want to see our insurance and medical industry reformed because of those who smoke.  The costs and impact of smoking are staggering and quite frankly, I really don’t care if putting higher taxes on cigarettes will affect lower income people and I don’t care of they choose to buy a pack of cigarettes instead of taking care of themselves–choosing to smoke cigarettes instead of eating.  Shame on this kind of argument!

What I would like to see is a real economic punishment for those that choose to live an unhealthy lifestyle, in the form of higher insurance rates and lower benefits for unemployment and welfare if recipients continue to buy cigarettes.    Period.

Our Congress and the Obama Administration have started this class warfare argument and are currently targeting the very expenditures for which Government was instituted (our national security).  They are also mass targeting seniors for COLA and benefit cuts, even those who have never smoked and are attempting to live an active lifestyle.  The real argument to be made is whether seniors have to do without their prescriptions which they pay for because of rising insurance premiums which they also pay for.

It is high time our Representatives stand up and start addressing this epidemic in America, both for economic and health reasons.

Again, smoking is NOT a right.  It is costing this country immeasurably in human treasure and financially for our children and grandchildren.  Let us all take a stand for what is right for the country as a whole.

Distortion of Reality

by Richard H. Frank

Over the past nine months the American public has been force-fed a steady diet of political rhetoric as we  rapidly approach the 2012 General Election.  Cable news and networks desperate to fill 24 hours of broadcast air time call upon a never-ending legion of pundits to predict the outcome of votes in the primary election race to pick candidates for the respective political parties.  Should you believe the pundits, the process would be all over with the results from Iowa and New Hampshire.  The reality is that these votes and caucus results choose less than 2% of he delegates needed to establish a candidate.

Today, the talking heads are quick to state that no candidate for the Republican nomination has caught fire with the electorate and assumed a commanding lead to secure the nomination.  Somehow, they have lost perspective that eight individuals were seeking the nomination as recently as last week.  Under these circumstances simple math would indicate that any candidate receiving 12.5% of the vote or more should be considered a serious contender.

The news media however, with their liberal bias has skewed the debates away from addressing the issues facing our nation and purposely structured their questions to foster attacks by one nominee upon the other.  The underlying purpose of their distortions is to tilt the momentum away from whomever the Republican nominee eventually emerges toward the re-election of Barack Obama.  Their bias is plain to see, not only in questioning of candidates during the debates but in the post-debate analysis by carefully selected pundits.

Fortunately, for Republicans and independents, the field of prospective candidates for the Republican nomination will be pared down significantly following the Florida primary.  That is when media distortion and bias will be evident for all to see, especially as they “position” each GOP frontrunner as wanting to kill the benefits given to senior citizens, a huge voting block of that state. If you think the primary race has been ugly, just wait until a Republican candidate has to go up against Barack Obama.

The media distortions will kick into high gear as the media places Obama on a pedestal for his “achievements” in foreign policy, his leadership as Commander-in-Chief and his accomplishments in fostering economic recovery, all of which are distortions of reality.  One only needs to look around to know the truth about Obama’s socialist policies.  Unemployment and under-employment about 25%, foreclosures accelerating at a rate to reach 6 million or more, 47 million American families receiving food stamps; inflation creeping upward to decimate our middle-income families and senior citizens, and  a national debt of 16 trillion.

These are the realities given to us by Barack Obama and his administration.  I for one do not believe this Nation and our Republic can withstand four more years of Barack Obama and his administration’s policies.

Keep these realities in front of you as you endure the continuing media onslaught of distortions over the coming eleven months  before the November, 2012 General Election.
