Parasites and Politicians

By: Richard H. Frank

Just over one week remains until the American electorate goes to the polls to cast their votes in the 2014 midterm elections. For many of us that ascribe to the principles enumerated in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence this may be the last bastion for turning the tide of big government from the path of tyranny that has been pursued by the Obama administration over the past six years.

Over the past six years we have witnessed the Federal Government imposing the socialist Progressive ideology of Barack Obama and his abject followers. Congress, under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, used every parliamentary maneuver at its disposal to thwart the opposition to their policies by the conservatives in Congress including bribery and collusion with members of Congress to pass their agenda. When faced with the prospect of filibuster by the opposition to stop the relentless march toward establishing “statism” to replace our “Representative Republic” Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option in the Senate to move Obama’s agenda forward. That coupled with executive actions taken by the President has forced private institutions to seek status and bring legal action to thwart the unconstitutional grab for power by the Executive Branch of Government.

Given the lack of interest and apathetic nature of the electorate in America today, more interested in social media and satisfaction of their perceived entitlements, I fear the die may be cast for the eventual dissolution of this once great Republic. Should history prove to predict the outcome of the midterm elections less than 30% of the eligible legal voters determine the fate of the nation. The uninformed, uneducated voter will once again cast his vote simply by name recognition, party affiliation or the candidate that promises to deliver the biggest entitlement. Unfortunately, this amounts to parasites voting for parasites to suck the life blood from this country in the name of fairness.

Before you decide whether you need to go to the polls on November 4th take a few minutes and reflect upon what has occurred over the past six years in America. We have reelected a President that repeatedly and systematically lied to us about virtually every issue that has plagued the nation. When he has been caught in a lie he fanes surprise and shock with a promise to investigate and hold those responsible and accountable for their actions. Weather it is Obamacare, Benghazi, the IRS targeting scandal, the VA, Fast and Furious or the cooked numbers for jobs created and unemployment the message from Obama and the Democrats is always the same. Never admit they were wrong and never accept responsibility so long as they can blame George Bush for their having inherited the crisis in the first place.

Now is the time for real change. Not Hope and Change as promised by Barack Obama, but real change to return to limited central government of, by and for the people based upon free-market principles with limited regulation by the Washington bureaucrats. A government where the 10th amendment is held sacred and the States determine their own destiny and not the Federal Government. A government whose first responsibility is to protect its citizens from threats foreign and domestic and not to dominate and control the very existence if its people. And lastly a government having the maturity to impose term limits on its elected members to purge itself once and forever of the professional political parasites that make a career out of sustaining themselves by sucking on the teat of office in the pretense of service to the country.

So if you are among the 30% or less that will venture to the voting booth on November 4th ask yourself if you want to continue along the path to becoming a European Socialist Nation trapped in never-ending decline or returning to a vibrant America with a future of economic growth, prosperity and freedom for generations yet to come. The Choice is yours to make. Choose wisely.

Obama’s Roadmap to a “Single-Payer System” for Healthcare in America!

by Richard H. Frank

There is an old adage that states “Oh what a web we weave, when at first we try to deceive!” Barack Obama has for over four years deceived and lied to the American people when he stated “If you like your healthcare insurance you can keep it – PERIOD; If you like your doctor you can keep him or her – PERIOD; No one can take your insurance away no matter what; existing plans are grandfathered in under the Affordable Care Act.”

What he failed to say was that the law mandated ten provisions that policies must include in order to qualify under the law. Further the law is explicit when it says that any changes in coverage or premiums would eliminate a policy from the grandfathered protection. Thus, as soon as any provider altered their coverage to comply with the law, they automatically voided the grandfather clause. The ACA law in essence forces insurers to cancel policies that exclude any of the mandatory provisions under the law which individuals may prefer and raise premiums on replacement policies or exit the market altogether. This is just one example of Obama’s “bait and switch” tactics used to sell the ACA to unsuspecting Americans.

Although the rollout of the Obamacare website and millions of people losing their coverage due to the law is consuming the news headlines the real story is being buried by all the political rhetoric. The real story not being talked about is how Obamacare has been designed to fail and force the nation to adopt a single-payer system across the nation.

The evidence was placed right before our eyes when in 2009 a Flow Diagram created by Kevin Brady was shown to the public depicting how Obamacare would function and integrate 159 different government agencies in administration of the law. Viewing this diagram is there any wonder that the Government website failed and crashed at its inception. This monstrosity was doomed to fail by design. In the interim, private insurance companies will be forced to raise premiums on businesses and individuals and eventually be forced out of business. The last alternative for Americans will be Medicaid which is the Government-administered single-payer system supported by Obama during his 2008 campaign for election.

Should the Affordable Care Act remain the law of the land, Obama will have achieved his stated goal to “fundamentally change America” and destroy the free enterprise system in America.

The only way for “We the People” to stop Obama’s relentless march towards socialism in America is to clean house in both Houses of Congress during the 2014 midterm election and put a halt to President Obama’s agenda to make America a third world nation.

Detroit-Obama’s Blueprint to the Destruction of America

by Richard H. Frank

August 17, 2010 I wrote a post entitled “Detroit Laid Waste by Multiculturalism and Political Correctness” which chronicled the slow death of a once great city. Like thousands of others that experienced the pinnacle of a thriving city through WWII in the 1940s and the postwar boom of the 1950s and 60s, I weep at what has become of this once great city. Detroit now forced into bankruptcy by corrupt, municipal officials, misguided policies, political correctness and the stranglehold by unions on the throat of the city. Over a period of 60 years the population has dropped from over 2 million to an estimated 700,000 as citizens fled the onslaught of crime and decay overtaking the city.

This past month, June, 2013, I was personally shocked and sickened to see first-hand what had become of the once beautiful eastside neighborhood and in particular the house where I was born. That neighborhood and that home held memories that reflected a family having achieved the American Dream. Now it stands evidence to the more than 78,000 abandoned and burned-out shells of homes that once were the pride of a thriving city.

As I stated in my previous blog “In Detroit we reap what we have sown. First the attack on our educational system and the dumbing down of America, followed by unending welfare programs, well-intentioned but destructive, as we reward people for making no contribution to caring for themselves or their family. Next, continuing the unrelenting attack on the free enterprise system by Government with regulations and taxes that stifle economic growth.

Detroit is just the latest municipality to fall prey to the insidious elements contained in Barack Obama’s master plan to fundamentally change America. The time bomb continues clicking the minutes away as this nation proceeds along the path to destruction resulting from a $17 trillion debt which cannot be repaid and some estimated $68 trillion in unfunded entitlements promised to Americans by the Federal, State and Local Governments.

I fear this great nation will not survive to celebrate its 300th birthday should we continue along Obama’s road to destruction.

Smokers Once Again on the Backs of Taxpayers!

by Jayne D. Frank

One of the myriad of devastating financial impacts to taxpayers of Obamacare has just recently been announced. Some states who have agreed to be in the Government healthcare exchanges have agreed to a provision to put smokers in what I call another “victim’s group” and allow them special status to be considered as having preexisting conditions under the exchanges.  What this will mean is that smokers who “choose” to continue smoking and drain the American healthcare system will not see their insurance policies rise with a surcharge imposed for their unhealthy habit.  Bad decision.  It is up to all taxpayers, who are already seeing massive increased costs as a direct result of Obamacare (increases in premiums, shorter work hours, additional taxes), to write and call their Governors and legislators to urge them not to follow suit with the more liberal states that have already voted to designate smokers as having a preexisting condition.

I have always been in favor or increased insurance costs for people who choose bad lifestyles?  Why?  Not only have I seen cigarette smoking ravage the health of my own family, but I truly believe in personal responsibility.  Millions of Americans have made the decision to quit cold turkey, reduce the fat and bad carbs in their diets and try to exercise or at least stay active.  These people should be applauded and given the best possible insurance rates, just as you are given the best insurance rates for not having had an accident in your car.

More than half of all smokers die from smoking-related diseases and die an average of 10 years before a non-smoker; half of all long-term smokers make it past the age of 70.  Smoking-related deaths are not quick deaths either.  Smokers can expect several years of expensive health care, illness and distressing systems before they die.

Smokers are far more prone to develop lung cancer, COPD, heart disease and cancers of the mouth, nose, throat, larynx, pancreas, and blood are all more common in smokers.  Chemicals in smoking can damage the lining of your blood vessels and circulation and can also lead to stroke and aneurysms.  Smoking also contributes to macular degeneration, osteoporosis and dementia, and on and on.  Children, co-workers and friends who are constantly around smokers run the high risk of developing asthma or similar illnesses from second-hand smoke.

The latest push by our Government to make sure smokers are included as a preexisting condition (thereby insuring that they can always be covered and not have to pay a higher rate due to their “high risk lifestyle”) is being touted as once again levelling the playing field.  They will say that long-term smokers in general are in economically poorer areas because those people cannot afford to get the kind of treatment that rich people can get, and that is not “fair.”  Hogwash.  As I stated before, statistics confirm that most people have quit cold turkey, and each person in this country was born and given free will by our Creator.  The will to be healthy or not is given to everyone and taxpayers should not be shouldering the burden in this country for anyone who chooses an unhealthy lifestyle.  Personal responsibility MUST take over for what is becoming the nanny state in America. This is tantamount to saying that bunions, arthritis, fear of heights, or social awkwardness are all preexisting conditions.  What will be next?

Another argument from Government down the line is going to be that if you average the cost of health care for a non-smoker or smoker during their entire lives, you actually get a lower amount spent on smokers.  That’s because smokers die on average 10 years sooner than their non-smoking counterparts!  It is actually a substantially higher heathcare cost for smokers.

With a father, mother and sister who lived for years in sickness, and with numerous short hospital stays averaging over $80,000 each, I have a very clear picture of the decades-long financial drain their lifestyles had on taxpayers.  They also died what I consider horrible deaths because of smoking, with my sister becoming a paraplegic because a smoking-related aneurysm cut her life short in her 60s.

Taxpayers who are doing everything right, by their own choosing, should not be burdened with the excessive cost of not putting smokers in a high risk category.  This has nothing to do with emotions, with compassion or with your love of your fellow man.  It has to do with personal responsibility of each human being.  Don’t be fooled by the Government’s tactics of making you feel they are compassionate.  Obamacare still has “death panel” provisions in it, and it is Government’s intention to eventually tell everyone when and where they may receive health care.  Once in the exchanges, everyone’s life will be cut short should the Government deem it too expensive to treat you – young or old, smoker or non-smoker.

Why Romney Lost the 2012 Election

by Richard H. Frank

Five months following the 2012 Presidential election and the defeat of Mitt Romney by Barack Obama the pundits  from both parties have attempted to spin their message and place the blame on everything from one candidate having no message to the other having a superior ground game for getting out the vote.  There is an element of truth in every theory presented but I believe the real reason resides in the changing demographics in America experienced over the past 50 years.  The demographics not so much in terms of ethnic origin, race or economic status but the demographic of an individual’s collective life experience.

As our nation prepared to celebrate the Bicentennial in 1976, I had the occasion to view a video entitled “What You Are is Where You Were When” created by  and featuring Dr. Morris Massey, then an Associate Dean and Professor of Marketing at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

My first impression as I viewed the video was that I was watching a fast-talking used car salesman that resembled a flim-flam man or carnival Barker.  As I listened however, it become apparent that he had a lot of valuable information to convey in a relatively short span of time limited by the video itself.

His message was all about values  The values every human being possesses, where they were first introduced, what life forces imprinted them upon us and how they became part of our belief system.

According to Dr. Massey there are three major periods in each person’s life during which values are developed:

  1. The Imprint Period, up to age seven, when we are like sponges absorbing everything around us, accepting much as true, especially when it comes from our parents.
  2. The Modeling Period, between the ages of eight and thirteen where we tend to copy others, often our parents.  We may be impressed by religion or teachers.  Often times outside influences may take precedent over the values of our parents.
  3. The Socialization Period, between 13 and 21 when peer pressures largely influence our behavior and often are in conflict with values previously introduced by parents and teachers.  Other influences include media, and in today’s rapidly changing technology the largely uninformed social media.

If Dr. Massey’s theories are correct the country has been bombarded with secular-based values over the past 50 years, many of which are in direct opposition to those of people born in the first half of the 20th Century.  For example:

  • The distortion of our Constitution with regard to the separation of church and state (words which cannot be found in the document as written by the Founding Fathers.)
  • The role of the Federal Government taking precedent and usurping the power of the state – disregard of the Enumerated Powers within the Constitution.
  • Expansion of the welfare state to include redistribution of wealth, not through voluntary, charitable institutions or individuals, but by the fiat of Government.
  • A disregard for human life by advocates of abortion and a practice in this Country that makes the Holocaust pale due to the wanton disregard for the life of the unborn through millions of abortions performed in this Country.

Take a look at what has occurred in our public institutions of learning beginning in the 1960s.  Religion has been removed from the classroom and the very mention of God is no longer tolerated.  Music celebrating any form of religion is no longer included in the secular curriculum taught in our schools and holidays acknowledged for centuries under the law are now renamed for political correctness.

So how have we as a nation allowed all this change in our values to occur since the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776?  According to Dr. Massey any change in values must be preceded by a “Significant Emotional Event.”

Looking back over the past 100 years it is easy to mark the most “significant emotion events” and see how they impacted the value system of Americans living at that moment in time.

  • 1914 World War I and a call to America to protect and defend the principles upon which this Country was founded.  The significant event came with the sinking of the Lusitania Passenger Liner by the German “U” boats and the loss of American life.
  • 1929’s Black Friday crash of the stock market leading to the Great Depression.  Millions of Americans were out of work and lost their homes.  This significant event imprinted the value for  hard work and property on millions of Americans living through the Depression.
  • December 7, 1941 and the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor once again awakened the patriotic values of America to return to its core values and defend the world against Imperial Japan and facism in Europe.
  • November 22, 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas and shook the nation to its very foundation.  Politically, our Government leaders embarked upon social justice programs such as the  Great Society,  the War on Poverty and others that nurtured a growing segment of society addicted to entitlements which cannot be sustained.
  • September 11, 2001, the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon shook America awake and focused the threat of Muslim extremists directly on our security here in the homeland.
  • November, 2008 the election of Barack Obama, the first Black President in this nation’s history that campaigned against many of the values that made our Country the most free, most prosperous nation in the history of the world.  His promise was to “fundamentally change America” through his actions for social justice to correct in his words “a fundamentally flawed U. S. Constitution.”  The significant emotion to elect a black man regardless of his lack of credentials and experience to hold the office, and the fear of being judged as being racist, overrode logic and common sense of the electorate.
  • November, 2012 Barack Obama is reelected with a campaign based solely upon the premise that he could not fix all the economic problems created by  George Bush in a mere 4 years and that General Motors was alive and Bin Laden was dead.

Therefore, if one is to believe that Dr. Massey is correct, and I do, what will the next “significant emotional event” be that awakes America and returns us to our senses?

Possibly without real fiscal reform the collapse of the dollar which would throw this Country into the worst depression ever witnessed in modern history.  Continued deficient spending and growth of the Federal Government to support social justice at the expense of the free market and eventually individual freedom. Or perhaps another event might be millions of people protesting in the street in America because their handouts no longer can be sustained.   Simply put “there is no such thing as a free lunch.”  When the Government runs out of other people’s money to spend we will become Greece and that’s when the real revolution will begin.  God Help the United States of America should we ever reach that time.
