Parasites and Politicians

By: Richard H. Frank

Just over one week remains until the American electorate goes to the polls to cast their votes in the 2014 midterm elections. For many of us that ascribe to the principles enumerated in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence this may be the last bastion for turning the tide of big government from the path of tyranny that has been pursued by the Obama administration over the past six years.

Over the past six years we have witnessed the Federal Government imposing the socialist Progressive ideology of Barack Obama and his abject followers. Congress, under the leadership of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, used every parliamentary maneuver at its disposal to thwart the opposition to their policies by the conservatives in Congress including bribery and collusion with members of Congress to pass their agenda. When faced with the prospect of filibuster by the opposition to stop the relentless march toward establishing “statism” to replace our “Representative Republic” Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option in the Senate to move Obama’s agenda forward. That coupled with executive actions taken by the President has forced private institutions to seek status and bring legal action to thwart the unconstitutional grab for power by the Executive Branch of Government.

Given the lack of interest and apathetic nature of the electorate in America today, more interested in social media and satisfaction of their perceived entitlements, I fear the die may be cast for the eventual dissolution of this once great Republic. Should history prove to predict the outcome of the midterm elections less than 30% of the eligible legal voters determine the fate of the nation. The uninformed, uneducated voter will once again cast his vote simply by name recognition, party affiliation or the candidate that promises to deliver the biggest entitlement. Unfortunately, this amounts to parasites voting for parasites to suck the life blood from this country in the name of fairness.

Before you decide whether you need to go to the polls on November 4th take a few minutes and reflect upon what has occurred over the past six years in America. We have reelected a President that repeatedly and systematically lied to us about virtually every issue that has plagued the nation. When he has been caught in a lie he fanes surprise and shock with a promise to investigate and hold those responsible and accountable for their actions. Weather it is Obamacare, Benghazi, the IRS targeting scandal, the VA, Fast and Furious or the cooked numbers for jobs created and unemployment the message from Obama and the Democrats is always the same. Never admit they were wrong and never accept responsibility so long as they can blame George Bush for their having inherited the crisis in the first place.

Now is the time for real change. Not Hope and Change as promised by Barack Obama, but real change to return to limited central government of, by and for the people based upon free-market principles with limited regulation by the Washington bureaucrats. A government where the 10th amendment is held sacred and the States determine their own destiny and not the Federal Government. A government whose first responsibility is to protect its citizens from threats foreign and domestic and not to dominate and control the very existence if its people. And lastly a government having the maturity to impose term limits on its elected members to purge itself once and forever of the professional political parasites that make a career out of sustaining themselves by sucking on the teat of office in the pretense of service to the country.

So if you are among the 30% or less that will venture to the voting booth on November 4th ask yourself if you want to continue along the path to becoming a European Socialist Nation trapped in never-ending decline or returning to a vibrant America with a future of economic growth, prosperity and freedom for generations yet to come. The Choice is yours to make. Choose wisely.

What Sort of Government Have You Given Us Dr. Franklin?

By: Richard H. Frank

Benjamin Franklin is purported to have replied to the above question with “a Republic madam, if you can keep it.” Benjamin Franklin recognized the threat posed to a “Representative Republic” by partisan politics, special interests, and unrestrained growth of the central (Federal) government. The Constitution imposed heavy restrictions upon the three separate and equal branches of government and left the fabric of authority for legislation in the hands of the several individual states protected by the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.

Over the past 100 years liberal progressive manipulation of the Constitution  has resulted in the creation of bloated bureaucracies at both the Federal and State levels of government with an unsustainable appetite to spend this nation and the states into bankruptcy. Even following the 2010 elections where the people confirmed their demand for fiscal responsibility and elimination of uncontrolled taxation and spending, Congress still has not passed a budget for the current fiscal year and the mythical threat of government shutdown is used to villify members of the  opposing political party.

At the State level we have witnessed massive union demonstrations including invasion of State Capital buildings as the special interest groups rebel against legislative actions to restore fiscal responsibility.

Our elected representatives should take a lesson from the average American family as how to balance their personal budgets. Millions of American families across this nation have had to make difficult choices about where spending would have to be curtailed in order to continue providing the survival necessities for their family. In order to provide food, clothing and shelter the majority of Americans have found it necessary to curtail most if not all discretionary spending. Many have been forced to find multiple means of employment just to supply the necessities. For the millions out of work and those on fixed incomes (mostly seniors) the choices have become even more difficult. These individuals and their families, approaching 50 million in America, are faced in many instances with loss of their homes, ability to pursue higher educational opportunities and the threat of creeping inflation that diminishes the purchasing power of their fixed income. These sacrifices are real and equate to major spending reductions and belt-tightening on the part of individuals and families that in many instances approach 20 – 30% of their budgets. The pain being felt by these individuals is massive in comparison to the minor budget cuts currently being debated in legislatures at both state and federal government levels.

Political ideology seems to be substituted  for facing reality within the Democrat caucuses in Congress. The debate over cutting $100 billion from the 2011 federal budget has become absurd when that amount is compared to the total spending incurred by the Federal Government. Depending on how the spending cuts are apportioned it amounts to less than 2% of the total budget for the year.

Democrats seem to think that as long as the FED has the ability to print dollars there is no urgency to imposing meaningful spending reductions. These legislators need to spend a day in the grocery store to see the impact that printing dollars has on the price of food, clothing and energy. All these items are excluded by government from calculating the consumer price index as the basis for determining inflation.

Congress needs to take a lesson from small businesses and American families and cut spending across the board by 20% wherein every bureaucratic agency will feel equal pain much the way the American public has felt it for the past two years or longer. Five years of 20% budget cuts would result in achieving fiscal equilibrium and the elimination of regulations that inhibit growth and would jump-start the economy.

Returning to spending levels experienced in 2008 would hardly impact the national security. In retrospect 2008 was a pretty good year in comparison to the past three years under the Democrat controlled Congress and the Obama administration. Unfortunately, as long as the likes of Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama remain in a position to forestall real fiscal reform, we can only look for incurring mounting deficits and mortgaging our grandchildren future. In the interim our standard of living will be diminished for every American.

Our Nation in Peril from Government Policies!

By: Richard H. Frank

What has become of the American dream? That picture of a future that included the opportunity, not the right, for any individual to achieve their personal vision of what that dream constitutes. Most Americans of my generation would have described the dream to include the following:

  • The opportunity and choice to secure a good education either academically or vocationally.
  • To be able to provide a better standard of living for our families than that which our parents or grandparents had experienced.
  • The opportunity to own a home that would always be the shelter and sanctuary for our family.
  • The freedom to pursue any endeavor we might chose, including acceptance of the consequences associated with failure.
  • The right to openly participate in and express the religious doctrine of my choice without interference from any individual or government agency.

There are two elements present in each and every aspect of the American dream as described above. First is the reliance on the individual willing to work and pay the price to achieve any and all aspects of that dream. Second, is the limited role of government to provide the opportunity for the individual and to shield that opportunity from undue outside influences.

Unfortunately, over the past 60 years government has expanded their role to become paternalistic with regard to achieving “equality” and “social justice” as opposed to “opportunity” and “justice under the law.” Those individuals that we have elected to represent “We the People” somehow believe that they have been elevated to a position of the “ruling class” and are entitled to meet out opportunity and freedom to the electorate to satisfy their vision of the American dream.

The law of unintended consequences ultimately prevails and results in stifling opportunity and eroding our individual freedoms. More damage has been done to this nation from well intentioned politicians that believe they can legislate morality and equality than from all the natural disasters in America since this nation’s founding.

Today we find ourselves on the brink of the worst economic disaster in over a century predicated on laws passed largely by unthinking legislators willing to rely upon the tenants of Keynesian economics to cure all the Nations ills. The anti-capitalist, anti-free enterprise policies of the congress over the past 10 years and redistributive agenda of the Obama administration bear testimony to the destructive impact they have had on the nation. The outlook for our country is bleak and the prospect of returning to prosperity where we may once again pursue the American dream may now be decades away if to ever be realized again.

Today senior citizens who have relied on the equity built in their real estate investments have seen that equity evaporate and may never return in their lifetime. The dream of spending their “Golden Years” with a sense of security no longer exists. This is directly due to government interference in the mortgage loan industry over the past decade.

Young people view our Social Security System as the greatest Ponzi scheme ever imposed upon a country. They see how Congresses of past decades have raided and squandered the Social Security lock box in the cause of “social justice” at the tune of $2.4 trillion and believe they will never see any portion of their contributions returned.

At one point in history full employment was considered achieved when 95-96% of the workforce was employed. The new norm for full employment according to the revised Obama administration methods for calculating is more closely aligned to 90% employed. This means those working individuals will carry the burden for the 10% of the unemployed workforce and more likely 20% if the under employed are included.

Once again we bear witness to the law of unintended consequences as we see the impact of the 2400 page “Affordable Health Care Legislation” passed by the 111th Congress and signed into law by President Obama. All of the pledges made by President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are being exposed as the great lies forced upon the American public. It has now been confirmed that costs will rise, coverage will be rationed, and the first step toward a government run single -payer system (nationalized health care) is being taken. All this done under the guise of reducing the national debt, bending the cost curve downward and insuring 30 million uninsured Americans. All these statements exposed as lies and predicted as such when an administration of idealogues and a corrupt Congress continue to govern against the will of the people.

The cancer of liberal progressive ideology has moved our nation to the brink of becoming a socialist welfare state. Changing the dangerous course our country is on will be painful to say the least. That pain will be felt at every level of our society and paid for in terms of altering future entitlement programs and stopping the out of control government spending as we return to the constitutional limitations placed on the Federal Government. The power brokers and special interests that influence Washington can and must be removed through the election of representatives that will speak and vote with the voice of their constituents.

One election will not cure the cancer and it may take a decade or more of intense treatment, likened to chemotherapy, by holding our elected representatives responsible to the electorate to finally cure and rid the Federal Government of those persons governing outside the constraints of our Constitution. Should “We the People” fail to take action and remain vigilant at holding government accountable, the once great American dream will never be realized again by our children or grandchildren.

Set yourself above party politics, educate yourself as to the real issues, and place only those people in government office that support the values and principles ascribed within the American dream. Take the step now toward taking back our country for “We the People” and vote on November 2, 2010.

Detroit Laid Waste by Multiculturalism and Political Correctness!

By: Richard H. Frank

Those of us fortunate enough to have been raised in the City of Detroit during the 1940s and 1950s carry memories of a vibrant, warm, industrious city with thriving civic centers and a downtown area possessing museums, theaters, luxury hotels, fine department stores and elegant restaurants. Some of the finest public parks were located within the city limits and along the riverfront where Bell Isle provided Detroiters an escape from the drudgery of work and the impact of World War II and The Korean conflict that followed.

The public education system within the city was superior and prepared their graduates with a solid foundation in the three “Rs” as well as a thorough understanding of accurate and “unedited” World and American history, social studies and civics. The High School curriculum gave students the option to pursue three fields of study. The offerings included a General Education program or a vocational -geared curriculum and of course a College Preparatory program. Those students that did not meet standards for advancement were held back and required to repeat their studies until meeting the minimum standard. Upon graduation from high school and entering college I found that most all required freshman courses had been covered during high school and made the transition to college life particularly easy.

Opportunity for young people to embark upon a career was varied and unlimited particularly in the Automotive Industry or other supporting businesses. Detroit was truly the Motor City with great companies such as General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Packard, Hudson and Kaiser-Frazer all having headquarters or operations in the Metropolitan Detroit Area. Machine tool builders thrived during the war and continued to grow as demand for American made automobiles continued to increase. All seemed bright for the future of this the fourth largest city in America up until 1967 and the civil unrest that ensued then and for years that followed.

The City became the model for Lyndon Baines Johnson’s “Great Society” which flourished in Detroit. Welfare took root within the minority segment of the cities population and was spurred on with Aid to Dependent Children that rewarded women for birthing children with no male to provide support. Today hundreds of thousands exist on Federal Well fare, free housing and food stamps.

Frosty Wooldridge a US Journalist chronicles the demise of this once great city under the banner of “Multiculturalism: a perfect method to kill our language, culture country and way of life.” He writes that between 1970 and 1990 he watched Detroit descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, murder, gangs and human depravity. Urban renewal came in the form of burning entire city blocks on each October 30 in celebration of Devil’s Night. All of this occurring under the leadership of a corrupt city government headed by Mayor Coleman Young.

During the same timeframe the Federal Government imposed onerous fuel and safety standards upon the Automotive Industry greatly increasing the cost of manufacturing vehicles and impacting market share for the domestic manufacturers. These actions by government coupled with management agreeing to continued union demands for increased wages and benefits were the first crippling blows to an industry following the same path to self destruction as had the Steel Industry in America just a few short years earlier. The seeds to the demise of manufacturing in America were sown during this period and Detroit would be the first casualty among many cities to follow.

The policies of the Coleman Young administration and the Detroit City Counsel set the benchmark for cronyism, incompetence and arrogance. The Mayor is quoted to have said “As a black man, I am the MFIC.” The IC stands for in charge. You can fill in the rest. Detroit was fundamentally transformed from a city with a mix of ethnic heritage including German, Italian, French, Latino and English to a population having 67% African Americans. The change was largely due to the exit of the city population.  Detroit plummeted from the fourth largest city in America to the eleventh and continues to slip each year. At one point the city boasted 1.8 million citizens and now is approximately 912,000. Legal and illegal immigrants have filled the void of those leaving the city. Muslims account for over 300,000 and Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan many of whom are attracted by the numerous welfare programs available in the state.

The call to worship for Muslims is heard over the city and seems to many like America’s Baghdad. High school drop-out rates exceed 75% and classrooms resemble more foreign countries than America where few speak English and illiteracy rate is 50% and rising.

Unemployment within the city hit 28.9% last year as the auto industry left the city. By any quantifiable measure Detroit is on life support left in the grip of incompetent city government and unions such as the Teacher’s Union that make no concessions to improve their situation.

In Time Magazine’s October 4, 2009 article entitled, “The Tragedy of Detroit”, Daniel Okrent stated “That because the story of Detroit is not simply one of a great city’s collapses, it’s also about the erosion of the industries that helped build the country as we know it today. The ultimate fate of Detroit will reveal much about the character of America in the 21st century.”

In Detroit we reap what we have sown. First the attack on our education system and the dumbing down of America, followed by unending welfare programs, well intended but destructive, as we reward people for making no contribution to taking care of themselves or their family. Next, continuing the unrelenting attack on the free enterprise system by government with regulations that stifle economic growth.

We need to take a lesson from countries like the Netherlands where immigrants from Middle East Muslim countries have established ghettos that breed home grown terrorists intent on imposing their radical ideology upon others. We have seen it in Madrid, Spain, London, England, Paris and France with bombing of trains and subways and riots. As their numbers grow so will their power to enact Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government.

You will not find Multiculturalism and Political Correctness mentioned anywhere in our Constitution. These are the creation of the political progressives and liberals in government and if allowed to grow unchecked will make every large city in America follow Detroit to their eventual end as a center of terrorism and tyranny. President Obama has pledged to fundamentally change America. This is not the kind of change Americans want.

I knew and lived in Detroit when it was a jewel. I fear that this once great city will not be able to rise from the ashes and return to its previous status in my life time. Let’s hope and pray that I am wrong.

And by the way, where is any reporting whatsoever on either network news or cable news stations, of the economic conditions of this great city?  You can’t have an honest debate about welfare programs, unions, job losses, or the economic condition of our country without shining the spotlight on what has happened in Detroit.

Demise of Our Republic!

By: Richard H. Frank

Most senior citizens today have lived through and experienced at least ten (10) Presidents of the United States and their administrations. My personal experience spans the governance of 13 Presidents, seven of which were Democrats and six Republicans. Unfortunately, at least five of the Democrats were inspired by varying degrees to support progressive, statist ideology and resulted in the explosion of the size and influence of the Federal Government over the States and the individual. Civil Rights raised its head during the Kennedy administration and threatened to split the nation. Thankfully, the Constitution prevailed, and although painful to many people, the rights of the individual against discrimination took root and gained acceptance over time.

The rapid slide toward socialism accelerated under Lynden Johnson’s administration and Congress enacted laws mandating quotas for education and in employment based on race and gender, all under the banner of creating “The Great Society” and “The War on Poverty”.

The seeds were planted in the 1960’s for the statists to establish the roots of progressive policy in government leading up to the Obama administrations push to harvest the fruits of socialism in America. These seeds have germinated for the past 50 years and like crabgrass spread throughout the landscape of both political parties in America. The results of progressive policy may be seen in unsustainable mandates for our social welfare programs including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the national debt which will soon exceed 14 trillion dollars and place a millstone of taxes on generations yet unborn to payback and the continued erosion of the very Constitutional principles that made America great.

Today, for all practical purposes the 10th amendment to the Constitution has been legislated null and void by Congress and a corrupt judiciary. Private enterprise and our free market system of economics are being smothered through regulation and government mandates. The Federal Government would rather sue the States than to perform their sworn duty to uphold the law and recognize the will of the people. The rule of law in America has been severely wounded and is being subverted by activist judges making decisions based on political considerations as opposed to the law.

The political ruling elite treat Americans like small children and continue to spout their ideological rhetoric in spite of the obvious facts and truth regarding progressive, Marxist policy coming out of the Obama administration. This past weekend the President stated that Medicare was more financially stable than in the past due to changes contained in the “Affordable Health Care Reform” signed into law this year. His claim that costs would drop due to elimination of fraud and waste and the $550 billion cut in the program were refuted by the Medicare actuaries. Yet, Obama continues to spout these absurd statements. Even the most gullible among us understands we cannot insure 30 million additional people, accept all preexisting conditions and reduce costs at the same time. The closer we get to the mid-term election the more ridiculous statements will flow from the Obama administration. Statements like “we have created or saved 3 million jobs” and taxes will not be raised on anyone earning less than $200,000.

The more Federal Government legislates how we are to live the more liberty we are forced to relinquish. Should “We the People” fail to make changes in Congress and our State governments in November to halt the statists, our sovereignty will pass from the individual to and all-powerful “Federal Government” and signal the demise of our Republic.

Religion in America – Adding Insult to Injury

By: Richard H. Frank

The latest assault on religious prayer being reported in the media is that residents of a nursing home have been told they may NOT pray before their meal since a portion of the cost for the food comes from the Federal government. Just how far are the secular progressives willing to go to destroy our Christian heritage in America? They hide behind the First Amendment of the Constitution and not only misinterpret the words but omit those words that render their argument moot. The amendment says,” Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof:” To my knowledge Congress has  not established any religion, especially Christianity. The secular progressives, through the courts, have imposed laws against the practice thereof in direct violation to the Constitution.  We can no longer celebrate Christian holidays or traditions in our schools and on any Federally funded or owned property in the United States. Federally owned means owned by the government, which  in turn receives its money in the form of taxes imposed upon “We the People”. Thus “We the People” must in fact own the Federal Property and also determine how and upon what Federal money should be used to finance.

According to the PEW Forum on religion in the United States 78.4 % of the population are Christians, 1.7% Jewish, 3.0% other and the remaining Unaffiliated 16.1%. Given these statistics it seems ridiculous that some Judge is able to subvert the Constitution and make law from the bench regarding how and where we may practice our faith. Call it political correctness or just plain political activism it is not only wrong from a representative standpoint but is also unquestionably unconstitutional. Should we adopt a precept of ownership with regard to schools and government-owned property then we should be allowed to observe Christian traditions 78.4 % of the time since Christians contribute that percentage on average to the funding of the government. This of course is as ridiculous as the current situation barring any religious observances on government property.

The founders knew that government unchecked would evolve into tyranny and within the Declaration of Independence stated…”that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their security.” Assuming that those persons that occupy the positions on the Supreme Court are virtuous and will uphold their oath to the Constitution, it is time for Christians to challenge the rulings and laws that prohibit exercising our Constitutional right to practice our religion whenever and wherever we deem appropriate, the same way Christians recognize the rights of all other religions. Should the Supreme Court fail to uphold the Constitution, then it is up to congress to impeach those Justices that continue to violate their oath. No one person, President or Judge is above the law and the Constitution is the supreme Law of the land.

Christians in America have been “disposed to suffer” the indignities imposed upon them by the secular progressives and it is time to stand up and return to the principles and values enumerated in the Constitution.

Obama Administration’s Blueprint for Socialism

By: Richard H. Frank

Never let a crisis go to waste. If there is no crisis, then create one. Take the time to study what occurred in Germany during the 1930’s and you will find that all the elements leading to the National Socialists Party taking power in Germany then are present in America today. The economic crisis, soaring unemployment, bankruptcies and rationing of scarce resources were all crises, real or manufactured, that ultimately destroyed the Weimar Republic. The National Socialists, like the progressives in the United States today, first targeted the educational system which had largely been under the control of religious based organizations. They removed all evidence of religion from the schools and promoted a secular curriculum that favored the state and socialist teachings. Banking was nationalized along with industry deemed critical to the national security. The health care system was nationalized and resulted in massive taxing of the German people, rationing of care, elimination of research and ultimately decisions by the government over life and death of the people. Rule by Presidential decree eventually replaced the voting process and legislation was enacted under the “Enabling Act” granting the Chancellor the power of decree in situations where national security was involved. This eventually led to a dictatorship governing Germany.

History records that all of the above changes took place in the period between 1930 and 1938 and like an avalanche began slowly and picked up speed until the German people were totally engulfed under a tyrannical dictatorship called the Third Reich. The Liberal Progressives in America have been thwarted by world events that caused Americans to reject many of their initiatives and therefore have moved slowly over the past 70 years to infiltrate our government to pursue their socialist statist agenda. With the election of Barack Obama and his proclamation that he will “fundamentally change America,” the mask has been removed from the progressives and their Marxist agenda is now in the open for everyone to view.

Affordable health care suddenly became a crisis although no American was refused care under the law that existed previously. According to progressives, global warming and greenhouse gas emissions is now a crisis that can only be cured through punitive legislation called Cap and Trade. The name is just another use of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals where if the language is rejected, just change the language. The legislation should rightly be called Cap and Tax. Immigration Reform is the next agenda item for the progressives asserting that current law keeps contributing undocumented immigrants in hiding for fear of deportation when all they want to do is provide for their families. It is of no matter to the progressives that these people have broken the law, so they will just change the law granting them amnesty and a rapid road to citizenship.   They will attempt to ram Immigration Reform legislation down the throats of Americans instead of insisting the current law is enforced. Further regulation of the financial system and the Banking Industry will increase government control over the private sector of our economy and result in higher costs for businesses and retard economic recovery and growth of the Gross National Product. All of these initiatives if allowed to become law, coupled with our out-of-control national debt, will enslave the people of this nation for decades to come and ultimately destroy the Republic. Only “We the People” still retain the power to stop the progressives from following the blueprint of the National Socialist Party in Germany and restore our government to the Representative Republic envisioned by the founding Fathers.
