Put Your Pen Down, Mr. President and Get to Work!

by Jayne D. Frank

I thought Barack Obama’s State of the Union address was contrived and full of grandiose rhetoric in 2013; however, that will pale in comparison to what we hear in this month’s SOTU address. Why? Quite simply, nothing the President ever says or promises becomes a reality. He had now prefaced his upcoming speech with “I have a pen and I have a phone” in which to get things done [because Congress is the problem].

Here are your words and promises from 2013:

1) “Together we have cleared away the rubble of crisis and … the state of our union is stronger.” Really! We have the highest level of poverty, higher number of people out of the job market, and highest number of people on food stamps than ever before. Is this your idea of a strong economy?

2) You said “We should ask ourselves as a nation: How do we attract more jobs to our shores.” One answer would be to resolve the problem of the millions of good-paying jobs that have been lost during your Administration. Your have used your pen, your failed Obamacare law and your thousands of EPA regulations to completely eviscerate any gains that might have come about as a result of spending billions of dollars on “stimulating” the economy. If you truly meant what you said, you would use your pen and the power of your office to approve the XL pipeline from Canada, which has the approval of 69% of our Senators and every Governor along its proposed path, putting thousands of people to work in good-paying energy jobs and you would lift the strangehold of those EPA regulations which are keeping companies cash-strapped and unable to produce any new jobs in their industry. Get your foot off the throats of energy companies!

3) You were going to create three more urban manufacturing hubs and ask Congress to create a network of 15 of these hubs for the “next revolution in manufacturing right here in America.” How’s that working out for you since more and more urban cities in America are in or approaching bankruptcy? We have the highest corporate tax rate at present and coupled with these regulations I’ve mentioned, there will be no additional manufacturing until you stop your insanity.

4) How do we equip our people with the skills to get… jobs?” One method might be to stop “giving” welfare and other entitlements to people in exchange for staying home and not looking for work. Require drug tests and require completing additional schooling as a requirement of getting entitlements.

5) We need to “reinvigorate the middle class.” Well, Mr. President, the middle class HAS lost 40% of its wealth under your Presidency and I think that your “words” remain another promise unfulfilled. You cannot invigorate the middle class if Obamacare remains the law of the land and takes more wealth out of the middle class. You cannot invigorate the middle class if you keep “giving” their tax money to others that don’t want to work. And you can’t invigorate the middle class if your message is not one of hope and declaration that America is one of the greatest producing countries in the world. You cannot invigorate the middle class when you have declared your intentions time and time again to “redistribute the wealth.”

Missing from the 2013 State of the Union and most assuredly the 2014 SOTU speech will be any mention of the many failures of this Administration in the foreign policy arena that have put America’s state of the union in jeopardy. The reason is quite simple. You do not have a record of accomplishment in this area and in fact your apologetic and appeasement policies concerning America’s power and standing in the world have made you look like a bafoon in this area. You are also afraid that should you mention foreign policy, Americans will continue to bring up the fact that you and the Secretary of State were directly responsible for the deaths of 4 Americans in Benghazi because you failed to provide security to them as requested. Your positions on defending Israel, taking away Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon and helping the millions of people suffering in Syria, are also deplorable.

Frankly, millions of Americans are poised to watch the 2014 State of the Union not to hear “hope” from you any longer. They will be watching you make a fool out of yourself once more. They will be counting and pronouncing your failures and lies once again. They will be hoping that the Supreme Court Justices and military commanders that usually witness this speech don’t come this year and bear witness to your criticisms, lies and disdain for them. You are a failure as a President and a Commander-in-Chief and it would behoove you to be humble, contrite and truthful to the America people in the 2014 State of the Union, but you won’t–you can’t help yourself!

Obama’s Speech on the NSA – Like Rearranging Deck Chairs on the Titanic to Avoid the Iceberg

by Richard H. Frank

Today President Obama spent the first 20 minutes of his speech lecturing us on the nation’s need for intelligence since the Revolutionary War up to and including the attack upon the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Five minutes into his first shaking finger-pointing lecture I wondered just how stupid he thinks “We the People” really are.

Every thinking American understands that our nation’s security and spying on our enemy is not only necessary but paramount in protecting us and our families against the unthinkable; a nuclear attack on some U.S. city or major event. In fact, We the People also know that it is one of the few authorities that the President has been delegated by an Amendment to the Constitution. Additionally, we are aware that in today’s cyber world intercepting communications between potential enemies, foreign or domestic, must be part of our arsenal for use by the NSA. The balance, however, between protecting individuals against unreasonable search and seizure (the 4th Amendment of our Constitution) and providing for the nation’s security was not dealt with in Obama’s lengthy speech today. He danced all around the topic but never directly addressed the wholesale collection of our telephone and text messaging by the NSA. He expects us to believe that only telephone numbers associated with suspected terrorist activities and those contacting those numbers are examined for trends and suspicious frequencies without access to the actual conversations or texts themselves. His claim that the investigation of the NSA by his Administration has found no instance where access to our communications have been unlawfully violated. That statement is worth as much as his saying “If you like your health care plan you can keep it.” He also never mentioned what was going to happen with the multi-million square foot data storage compound being built in Utah by the NSA if they were in fact going to stop collecting all this data and outsource much of it.

Now listen to his proposed changes:

1. A Presidential Directive to every agency having access to our information that in essence must not house that access.

2. That the NSA will continue to collect data on every America but not store that data by the Government with a caveat that the Government will look at the data collected when it needs to.

3. He would appoint yet another Commission of public advocates to determine and make recommendations on where and how the data mined was to be stored.

4. Congress in consultation with Attorney General Eric Holder would determine what changes require a Legislative action in order to be Constitutional.

5. He was requiring annual updates by the NSA and Holder on the status of implementation of its proposals and directives.

6. Lastly his Presidential Directive made off-limits spying on foreign leaders of our allies.

Some in the mainstream media, Democrats in Congress and Obama’s Administration will hail this speech as a major initiative to keep America safe while protecting our Constitutional rights to privacy.

In fact it was none of the above but just another diversion to distract the public from those “phony scandals” according to Obama like the IRS, Obamacare, the NSA spying scandal and Benghazi which he hopes to bury once and for all.

Everything he said today is virtually meaningless since nothing will change in the end. It’s all about Obama attempting to shroud the truth from us using tactics from his most “transparent administration” in history. This speech is akin to the analogy of “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic” in hopes of avoid the iceberg.

Three cheers for Barack Pinocchio Obama and his Administration of half-truths!

When That 3:00 am Call Came ….

by Richard H. Frank

Remember the political ad run by Hillary Clinton’s campaign against Barack Obama in the 2008 Presidential Primary? The ad questioned who “we the People” would want to answer the call at 3:00 a.m. when it finally came – Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama?

That fateful day came on September 11, 2012, not at 3:00 a.m. but at approximately 3:00 pm from Benghazi to the Pentagon and within the hour reportedly to Barack Obama and also Hillary Clinton.

The subject of that call was confirmation that the attack on the Consulate in Benghazi was indeed a terrorist attack. Yet the President with Hillary Clinton standing at a his side confidently asserted the attack resulted from a spontaneous uprising in protest of a video mocking the Muslim Prophet Mohammed. These contrived lies were reinforced by members of the Obama Administration for over three months before they abandoned the myth. The ARM Report commissioned by Hillary Clinton was the final attempt on the part of then Obama Administration to whitewash the entire affair. Finally, when Secretary Clinton was questioned during a public Congressional Committee, she asserted “What difference at this point does it make?”

Well, for those of us paying attention, it really does matter. If the best we can do is to elect people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to be the individual in charge when that 3:00 a.m. call comes in, May God have mercy on us all.

When our President and Secretary of State consider their political futures and elections more important than protecting our diplomats and military personnel, they have no moral or legitimate right to hold office in this Republic.

Sixteen months after the fact we still don’t know where President Obama and Hillary Clinton were and what they were doing for the hours following this orchestrated attack on American soil in a foreign country.

Politics over principle seems to be the ideology of the entire Obama Administration and the partisan divide present in the U.S. Senate. The Obama government is not only incompetent but the most corrupt administration seen in my lifetime. Yet many Americans just don’t seem to care so long as their individual lives are not impacted by the actions of those they elect to public office. Like a frog placed in a pot of cold water on a stove, they remain content in their ignorance until the water temperature reaches the boiling point and they can no longer escape. The very freedoms our military fought and died for are now in jeopardy due to the ideology of individuals like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. “We the People” can and must do better when making choices for those that will lead this nation in the future.

50 Years After Smoking Warning – Where are We?

by Jayne D. Frank

50 Years after the Surgeon General’s report on the adverse effects of smoking we hear reports of how that report saved 8 million people from premature deaths who since have quit. These reports obscure and ignore the real facts and problems with smoking in 2014:

1) Because of population increase in the U.S., smokers have actually increased and the number of young people smoking has not decreased.

2) Only a handful of states actually have any “meaningful” laws protecting non-smokers from second-hand smoke in public places (workplace, restaurants, bars, etc.);

3) The propaganda on E-cigarettes is misleading inasmuch as they contain carcinogens which can lead to cancer, hardly an improvement over regular cigarettes;

4) Insurance companies do NOTHING to penalize smokers by way of higher premiums. Health care costs in this Country have spiraled out of control and one of the most prominent reasons is the cost of care for chronically ill people with sicknesses directly attributable to smoking has increased dramatically. You will hear arguments from smokers that the cost of treatment for non-smokers exceeds that of smokers, and the argument cannot be made truthfully. NON-SMOKERS JUST LIVE LONGER so they could require longer medical care! This smokescreen is most apparent when you look at what Obamacare does and doesn’t do with potential enrollees. The enrollment form asks you “whether” you smoke, but does nothing to increase smoker’s premiums, and in fact, many if not most smokers will be off the hook for paying anything and will be thrown in Medicaid or subsidized, both on the backs of others.

5) Entitlements in this country have soared over the last 50 years and especially during the Obama Administration and we taxpayers continue to “give” welfare checks and unemployment checks to smokers who run out and pay hundreds of dollars a month for cigarettes.

6) The cost of treating asthma in this Country is dramatically increasing every year, and how many of these asthma cases came about by children having to be around and live with people who smoked every day?

The rhetoric is all well and good about possibly saving 8 million people from premature deaths by having them quit, but nothing substantial has happened in this war on smoking over the past several years. Smokers have rights, but they have NO right to take taxpayer money for their habit, they have NO right to drain the healthcare system in this country, they have NO right to cause everyone’s insurance costs to go up because of them, and they still have NO right to interfere with my rights not to breathe this stuff.

This is not just an opinionated blog without any basis or knowledge. I personally went through years and years taking care of 2 parents whose diseases from smoking literally took their life’s breath away and deteriorated every organ in their body. Their quality of life during the last ten years was deplorable and the way their bodies were ravaged was ugly. I got really disgusted at having to endure the countless doctors showing me photos of my dad’s lung cancer as it progressed and x-rays of lungs that had no air sacs left to breathe. They were both on expensive continuous oxygen and couldn’t get around at the end without wheelchairs. My sister who was in the prime of her life but acquired the life-long habit of smoking 3 packs a day from my parents, died of an aneurysm and strokes, but only 5 years after being completely paralyzed from those events. I am deeply disappointed in the recent court decision that did not mandate that these graphic pictures be shown on cigarette packages. I guess “reality shows” are just relegated to the television now.

More importantly I saw the bills that came in from Medicare and my sister’s insurance companies for her long-term care. A typical 3-day hospital visit for one of my parents in 1997 ran over $80,000. Who paid for that? We all did.

The personal side of this for me is that I was subjected to second-hand smoke my entire life as a child and because both my son and I took care of my parents, we were subjected even further to the effects of being around my parents, and guess what? They continued to smoke up until their death because they said “we have rights.”

The Stampede to Socialism in America!

by Richard H. Frank

As 2014 begins every American needs to look back at what has occurred in this Country over the past 5 years under Barack Obama’s Presidency and his Administration. Never in my lifetime have I witnessed a more inept, incompetent and corrupt Administration aided by those in Congress hell-bent on the destruction of the very fabric upon which this Republic was founded, Our Constitution!

We have a President who has no qualms about looking Americans directly in the eye and lying to them over and over again. When the facts do not support his assertions and agenda he and his Administration just change the facts thinking the more they expound on fallacious information eventually we stupid Americans will believe the rhetoric.

How slow are Americans in realizing what is taking place before our very eyes? From stimulus spending and non-existent shovel-ready jobs, to failed green energy programs, to the spring of recovery in 2009, to Benghazi being the result of a video and on and on again. Yet in the upcoming State of the Union Address our majestic President will be sure to take credit for equally unreal achievements such as the bogus decline in unemployment and the surge in American energy production and exports and of course his signature accomplishment “The Affordable Care Act” aka “Obamacare.” Thus far every promise he has made concerning healthcare is either being proven untrue or at best exaggerated.

Then we have Congress, the People’s voice and representative to bring checks and balances against an oppressive Executive Branch of Government. The voice of the People has been muted through Congress supporting the Socialist’s agenda of Obama and his Administration by extension of entitlement spending unabated.

Today we have unemployment benefits extended for up to 99 weeks, food stamp programs increased by over 70%, health care costs now forecast to be three times that projected when the ACA was originally passed and welfare programs expanded to illegal aliens at unprecedented rates. All of these programs are being paid for with money this Country and the Obama Administration doesn’t have. Instead we just borrow the money and pass the soon to be $18 trillion debt on to our children and grandchildren.

The Rule of Law has been substituted by the rule through Executive decree or administrative regulations issued by unelected bureaucrats in various agencies of the Federal Government; i.e., the Department of Labor, the Environmental Protection Agency, Homeland Security, the National Security Agency and the Department of Justice. Many of these regulations are aimed at suppression of the free enterprise system and usurping the very freedoms conferred upon each of us under the Bill of Rights.

President Ronald Reagan warned that the first step toward destruction of the Republic would be a move towards socialized medicine. Obamacare is that first step and must be repealed before the roots of socialism take root and like an invasive vine choke the life from our Nation.

In the 1960s Nikita Khrushchev warned that America could not be destroyed by any attack from abroad but would eventually be destroyed from within. Now some 5 years later those of us old enough to remember his words bear witness to “the stampede to Socialism.” Unless “We the People” intervene and change the representation we elect to Congress the Liberal Progressives will assure the eventual “transformation of America” to a European social democracy as has been publicly declared by Barack Obama.

The Declaration of Independence holds the answer as to how “We the People” can prevent this oppressive Government from subverting our Constitution and freedom. Take heed America!
